The purpose of BrazosDebtClock.org is keeping the public continuously informed on the debt status of the Brazos County, city of Bryan, city of College Station, Bryan I.S.D., and College Station I.S.D governments. This layout is designed so that everyone can view an accurate illustration of these government's future obligations and each of its citizens' share.
All of these debt clocks have been meticulously calculated using the most precise calculations from data provided from these governments and state oversight databases and are updated as soon as such data is made available.
The debt is defined as the total amount of all outstanding bonds, including principal and interest. Unfunded liabilities are the total amount of unpaid benefits a government is required to provide to current and former employees.
The debt clock totals equal the difference between the actual 2010 totals and the projected end-of-year 2011 totals.
The debt crisis we face is real, and it is not just a federal or state problem, but a local problem as well. We can not afford to ignore these numbers any longer. BrazosDebtClock.org invites every government to analyze these calculations and provide any supplemental data that can help make these clocks as accurate as possible.
The sources used to collect data from each government entity include:
- Annual Budgets & Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports
- Texas State Bond Review Board Database
- U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics
- U.S. Census Bureau
- Texas Education Agency, Academic Excellence Indicator System
